Maria Polydouri

Speaking of book publishers Metaixmio, just noted that their 2005 literary diary is devoted to Maria Polydouri, possibly the most important modern Greek (female) poet. She was very keen on melancholy poet Kostas Karyotakis and wrote rather intense love poetry as well as many letters to him.

Oh yes I've read about her.

I once made a man fall in love with me by announcing that I had cried for Karyotakis's soul...

I have often thought about the way he chose to die, what determination, what a waste.

"...I advise those who know how to swim no to try to commit suicide in the sea. All night tonight I have been fighting with the waves. I drunk a whole lot of water, but once a while, without knowing how, my mouth was coming to the surface. Definitely, some time, when I have the chance, I will write the impressions of a drowned man."

You know, I live a few hundred metres from where he battled it out with the waves.

OMG!

I knew there was a reason why we met!

This is very symbolic.

I'm pretty impressed that you know so much about Karyotakis. He's definitely an interesting character!

Actually being a Papakonstantinou fan is what got me interested. I loved the way he sang/delivered Preveza.
